Mark Towner, Knock It Off!

It's no secret I've been in some high-profile fights with Mark Towner over his spamming ways. Remember the gun-for-hire e-mail he sent from Utahns for Public School? How about the threats to sue me? Maybe his blatant violations of FeedBlitz's ToS and their lack of interest in enforcing it? After all of that, I suppose that proof that he doesn't honor unsubscribe requests should be much of a surprise at all. I got the following in my inbox today:

[1]THE 545 PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR AMERICA'S WOES

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, and we still have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, and we still have inflation and high taxes?

Now Mark, I know you're desperate to get your "content" out to as many people as possible, but didn't we have a conversation where you promised not to spam me anymore? I see to recall providing you with three e-mail addresses on which I was receiving your tripe. In fact, here's the e-mail:

I checked all three and they did not come up in the database. Phil's system can be a little shaky, and I have had to reload several times. I can't tell if he is English, or from India with an English accent

I'm not sending anything to you anymore I hope? The reality is trying to manage all these email addresses is a real pain. If you give me your private email address I'll look it up and make sure I never send you anything again, promise

I see one of a few possibilities Mark. You either didn't honor the unsubscribe request in the first place, you indiscriminately scrape e-mails and end up adding people back to your spamming li
st, or you figure that pissing me off is your favorite pasttime. In any event, you lied about making sure I wouldn't get more of your spam and I have no hard feelings about giving you a public whatfor. All this after I tried to extend an olive branch to you.

You know that old saying: fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Well, you had your chance Mark. I'm not giving you another one. You're a liar and a spammer.

That’s too bad that you’re getting spammed still by Mark. What i find very funny is that this particular piece of spam is basically correct. It is a message that everyone should understand, but spamming is not the way to promote the message. Maybe Mark is trying to kill our civic sensibilities they way he helped fight against vouchers.

Luckily I saw it on his blog, and not in my inbox.

  2. jasonthe says:

Sorry to hear you still can’t get off his lists.

Ironically, we’ve tried several times to willingly subscribe, just for the entertainment value of seeing what content he is stealing from Real Clear Politics every day, and he un-subscribes us after a few days.

    He’s a very silly man.

  3. Mike says:

Maybe he’s got Bonzai Buddy on his computer, and that’s what’s resubscribing everyone?

  4. Jason says:

Is the Bonzai Buddy still around? I had that dumb monkey on my PC back in 98! We used to make him say naughty words.

  5. Jesse says:

David: That’s kind of the point. Despite if I do or do not agree with the content, the delivery is totally objectionable. It would be like giving me a free newspaper by attaching it to a brick and lobbing it through my front window.
