Our New Addiction
For years I'd been hearing about Settlers of Catan and about how much fun it is to play. I'd never gotten around to trying it out and Shauna was especially disinterested, relegating it to the same category as Dungeons and Dragons. That all changed last night. Her mom was in town and invited us down to Provo to play a game with some of Shauna's aunts. We really didn't have much planned, so we put the dogs outside and headed on down. It's a good thing they didn't tell Shauna what game it was or we probably wouldn't have gone down there.
Around 2 in the morning, we were finally leaving after playing what had to have been nearly a dozen games. We played it again tonight for almost 7 hours. Maybe it's time to buy our own copy.
Yay! You can join us in our love for the game. 🙂
I’ve never heard of this game – what is the premise?
It’s kind of like someone took the video game Civilization and turned it into a board game. The premise is to build a network of roads, settlements and cities in order to reach a certain number of victory points.
Yeah, we love it. It’s one of those games that we can play, and enjoy ourselves whether we win or not. In fact, sometimes we have the most fun when we know there’s no way to win, so we just make crazy deals to help or block the other players.
Oh, I can’t believe you’re just now getting around to this game! I love it. Now that you like Settler’s of Catan, you can jump right into Seafarers of Catan and the Cities and Knights of Catan… the joy goes on and on.
We have all the expansions. We got a little obsessed with it. You should come down and play.
I don’t have any of the expansions. But… you should come down and play.
