I have a Honeypot and I'm not afraid to use it.
Spammers, harvesters and other ne'er-do-wells, beware:
That's right, you're On Notice now.
I've been seeing a lot of visitors hitting forum.coolestfamilyever.com. This wouldn't be remarkable except that it has never existed. Upon a closer look, it would appear that spammers were trying to find our non-existent forum to steal e-mail addresses and leave copious amount of spam all over the place. I wasn't about to take that lying down.
As I've mentioned before, we use the http:BL plugin for WordPress to stop spammers before they get to us. It relies on the Project Honeypot database to figure out who these jerks are so that they can be preemptively blocked. The way that spammers get caught is by catching data going to a non-existent page or website and reporting it as suspicious. That's exactly what I did.
Since we never have had a forum, do not have a forum and do not plan on having a forum, anyone trying to find one will be sent to blocking purgatory and face the risk of being locked out of a plethora of websites. Take that, hosers.
Score one for the good guys!
NICE!!
