Back to Savannah
I'm back on the road again, this time on a business trip to Hinesville, GA, just outside of Savannah. There's no cohesive entry here (I wouldn't want to bore you to death with a noodle post), so I just have some random thoughts.
– Sony, your noise-canceling headphones suck. For starters, they don't cancel noise. That's a pretty big problem when it's the main selling point of the product. The volume is so weak that the plane drowns most of it out and these aren't terribly comfortable to wear. I'm tempted to glue my old Phillips ones back together since they have vastly superior sound quality and return these lemons. (Sweetheart, could you go find the packaging in the trash? Yes, the trash outside. I know I said it was okay to throw away the package. I'm an idiot.) In the meantime, I'm glad I packed the earbuds that came with the MP3 player.
– Sandisk, your Sansa player is pretty sweet. I watched movies on it during the whole trip instead of watching the tripe they usually play on the small screen. (Scoop? I haven't even heard of it and it didn't even sound remotely interesting.) Having a feature-length film only drain 1/4 of the battery was super awesome. The downside was leaving the laptop running for over 6 straight hours to convert two movies. I'm not exactly cool with that.
– I'm totally digging the heat down here. It was 80 degrees when I stepped off the plane and the daytime temps are set to stay in the 50s and 60s. That's a far cry from the sub-zero arctic blast greeting me this morning. I mean, c'mon: there was ice on the inside of the bathroom window when I took a shower. Not cool.
– Traveling on a Monday morning during the peak of ski season may not be the best of ideas. The security line went clear across the skybridge to the parking garage doors. Thank goodness they were processing people quickly or I would have so missed my flight.
– The worst part of this travel is going alone. My plan to fix that is to build up enough frequent flyer miles to get free tickers. The upside? Bringing Shauna with me to these cool places. The downside? It's going to take a lot more solo travel to build up enough miles. I'm thinking somewhere between 4 and 6 long-distance trips to accomplish that. Ouch. Maybe it's time for one of those rewards credit cards.
– The second worst part of travel is being bored to death in the evenings. If I were in the middle of Savannah, it wouldn't be a problem: I'd just go out and find stuff to do. Hinesville, however, is about 45 minutes away. It's kind of like going on business to Provo when you want to see the sights of downtown Salt Lake. This client is particularly problematic in that area: We start around 9AM, break for an hour-and-a-half lunch, then we're done by 3PM. It's kind of hard to find something to do on a weekday afternoon in another town. As a kicker, the hotel's Internet connection seems to block my remote access meaning I can't use that time to catch up on office work. Bleck.
That's all of the ramblings I have thus far. I know: no restaurant reviews. I'm saving them all up for the last day.
Good luck with those miles. A cc would help you earn them a lot quicker I’m sure. I do want to kick you however for mentioning the weather. I’m FREEZING.
Seriously, we have a hard time feeling bad for you being BORED when we are trying to thaw out our toes so they don’t break off in our shoes.
Sony’s headphones do suck. They suck hard! I use them at work and I hate them. I can hear the buzzing they make to “cancel out” the noise. Bose’s are much, much better. Have fun in the dirty south!
my roommate has a pair of Sony canceling headphones for her electric piano. I use her other pair when I play.
Bose–now that’s a dream.
If money were no object, I’d have picked up a pair of the Bose headphones without a thought. The biggest problem is that the headphone selection in most stores stinks. I really miss Fry’s.
I’m not sure if you have a choice of who you fly with for your business trips or not, but if you do then I’d suggest flying with Alaska or their rewards program partners. Their miles add up soooo fast. There are lots of ways, especially if you live in the US to also obtain extra miles on top of flying that would make it so easy to have the miles to bring along your lovely wife.
I’m intensely jealous of your ability to play in Savannah.
Man, I love that city. One of only two cities in Georgia I’d EVER live in.
